The Swell - Band Edit

about

A band edit trip of David Meany's ''The Swell'

lyrics

Hearts hardened by a new form of exodus - the swell
Numbed by names and numbers and damned if you tell
but we don't
first genuine flushes of a heart attack and hype
told to me to be a city of gold
but starting to swell like a city of ghosts

Blessed with a town of charm and squalor
cursed with magnetic lips
gifted with a town of beer cans and chancers
cut down by the reach of the rest
turning the tricks to entice the departed
the prodigal snare - we want repeat

endless toilet talk all varied but the same
to comfort the man in the jacks
all blinking lights and the piss of a promise
with darkness flanking the stage
and at curtains close we'll shuffle away
back to our smoking haze . . .
